-Typically it occurs in the thigh or calf and can develop after any major surgery

-Symptoms may include pain, swelling and skin discoloration, or no signs at all. DVT risk is greatest between two and five days after surgery, with a second peak risk period occurring about 10 days after surgery—after the patient has been discharged

Works well and is quiet when operating. Used for a knee replacement and helped a lot with the swelling. Some leakage when connecting the pad to the unit. We were told by someone who used it that frozen water bottles would work as well as ice and we found this to be true. Made need to replace the bottles a little more often but much easier - use four bottles in the unit, four others in the freezer and swap as necessary. Plan to keep for possible future needs ( getting old and parts are wearing out).
